BYLAWS of the PALOS VERDES BICYCLE CLUB
Article I. Name
The name of this organization shall be the Palos Verdes Bicycle Club, hereinafter called the Club.
Article II. Purpose
The purpose of this Club shall be to promote safe, sociable and courteous recreational bicycling. The Club will also encourage bicycling for fitness and transportation.
Article III. Membership
The Club is a non-profit organization affiliated with the League of American Bicyclists. Membership is open without regard to race, national origin, gender, creed or sexual orientation to any person dedicated to the purpose of the Club. Members are encouraged to join the League of American Bicyclists. Members (17 and under) must be accompanied by an adult member at all Club functions.
Article IV. Organization
The elected officials of the Club shall include: a president, a vice-president, a secretary, and a treasurer. The executive board shall consist of the elected officers.

Article V. Nominations and Elections
A. The members shall elect the officers biennially in June of odd numbered years. Results will be determined by a simple majority of those present and voting.
B. The president shall appoint a nominating committee at least two months before the biennial elections. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor.
Article VI. Finance and Meetings
A. Dues, as set from time-to-time by the executive board, are payable upon joining the Club, and annually in June thereafter.
B. A general meeting shall be held at least once a year at a place to be designated by the executive board.
C. These bylaws may be amended at the annual meeting by two-thirds of the membership present.
Article VII. Safety, Personal Responsibility, and Insurance
A. Each member and participant in club activities is responsible for his or her personal safety at all Club functions.
B. Recognizing that a certain element of risk is assumed in bicycling, each member must sign annually a Liability Release from that will remain on file with the club. Other bicycle riders or participants in Club activities must sign a Liability Release form at the time of their participation.
C. Weekly bike rides are for the benefit of club members. Non-members/visitors may participate in a maximum of one ride before joining the club.

- Appoint all committee chairs
- Act as liaison to other organizations and represent the Club at appropriate functions
- Maintain general oversight of all Club activities
- Perform such other duties as the executive board shall direct

- Perform all duties of the president in his or her absence
- Recruit ride leaders and provide them with assistance and support as requested
- Oversee and assist in the scheduling of bike rides
C. The secretary shall:
- Keep a record of all meetings
- Prepare the ride schedule, newsletter, and notices of meetings
- Conduct and maintain Club correspondence
D. The treasurer shall:
- Collect all dues, be the custodian of all funds of the Club, keep proper records, and submit a report at the end of each fiscal year to the membership.
- Maintain a database of Club members, a file of Liability Release forms, and a mailing list of Club members.
